This tree is number 54 in the collectors edition of display tree sculptures, is signed, dated and numbered by the artist and comes with its own certificate of authenticity. 
This intricately designed work of art has been completely hand made from sustainably harvested reclaimed manzanita tree materials. 
Manzanita is a tree that grows all around southern California and is so exotic it is protected by federal law. It is illegal to cut it down without proper permission from either land owners or state and federal officials. 
Manzanita trees in their natural form grow in an exotic and an artistically twisted organic characteristic form that is unmatched in beauty by any other tree in the world!
Some of the manzanita in this piece has been reclaimed from wildfires and some that have been harvested from dead brush clearing areas to prevent wildfires. 
Manzanita's density and beauty make it an excellent choice wood for creating all sorts of art creations from it. But its main beauty is highlighted in which the tree artistically grows with natural twists, knots and grain striations of the most stunning character. 
Every layered branch is intricately set into place in the most patient and detailed fashion with each and every glue joint having been hand carved at the glue joint so each branch becomes permanently fitted and attached. So there are no screws, nails or bolts holding any pieces together. It is completely hand done at every turn.
Additionally, there are oak wood dowels at the glue joints to embody a touch of traditional wood joinery look and as well add to the overall structural integrity of the sculpture.
Each hand selected manzanita branch has been thoughtfully layered into place following the natural growth pattern of manzanita to create the look as if the whole sculpture literally grew into form.
Adding even more to the character to this tree sculpture a mix of some deep earthy blue chrysocolla and deep green malachite has been inlaid all throughout this entire piece in the natural weathered wood cracks to completely making this an eye catching beauty!
I first became enamored with the  beauty of manzanita when I moved out west in early 2001 at the beginning of my long journey into woodworking. 
On October 26th 2003 I was unfortunately burned out of my home and lost everything I owned by what has become known as one of southern California's most historical and devastating wildfires known as the 2003 Cedar Fire. 
Intuitively working with the manzanita I found solitude and healing as I learned how to craft with this exotic hardwood. With each piece of wood I worked with I found myself equally piecing back together fractured components of myself as well that were shattered from life's devastating impact of loss.
Traditional woodworking skills that were attained from college woodworking classes and an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker only took me so far and over time I learned to craft with the wood in a completely intuitive way, discovering my own passion and way in letting the wood show me the way it wanted to be worked with.
Every tree sculpture is treated with a local California made eco friendly penetrating oil that is worked into the wood to permanently seal the wood for a very long and happy life!

Measurements of this piece are are 16" High x 17" Wide 22" Deep. 
The base is 19" Wide x 16" Deep.
